The worst is not over yet!

Days after the massive tidal waves ravaged the coastline of eight Asian countries, the known death toll has crossed 1,23,000, with untold number of people still missing, as the cataclysm resonated! Each day seems to bring on more distress. The tsunami has left a large number of bodies, washed ashore, most of them yet to be found. Four days after the disaster, hundreds of bodies still lay under the debris of ravaged buildings and some even lay scattered in waterlogged fields. Bodies have littered the streets of several coastal regions in India, Indonesia and Sri Lanka. The worst nightmares of medical experts have come true

Water-borne diseases like cholera, diarrhea, malaria and typhoid are the worst diseases stalking the survivors. Shortage of medicines and disinfectants is another hurdle.

Homelessness, starvation, threat of epidemics, false alerts triggering off panic attacks.....

Will the nightmares ever end?

Animals, they say have an uncanny sixth sense. Did they have a forewarning of the quake?

Meanwhile, a modern day Nostradamus claims to have predicted the great killer quake. Read on...

New Year Looms Ahead!!!

At the turn of the year 2004, I’m fervently looking forward to The New Year. It’s that time of the year when I reflect back and write my New Year Resolutions. Looking back, I think, had I managed to accomplish the task of monitoring and putting into action most of my old ‘new’ year resolutions, I'd be rich and with a perfect ten figure by now. Alas!

An incurable hopeful that I am, I’m at it again. This year, however, I’ve decided to make resolutions that I can actually keep.

I’m looking forward to lots of things in the forthcoming year, and one of them is the release of the next book in the Harry Potter series. Have a peek at J.K.Rowling's official site.

I'm also looking forward to graduating..AGAIN!!!

'Tis the season to be merry!

Little Billy came into the kitchen where his mother was making dinner. Christmas was coming up and he thought this was a good time to tell his mother what he wanted.

"Mom, I want a bike for Christmas."

Little Billy was a bit of a troublemaker. He had gotten into trouble at school and at home. Billy's mother asked him if he thought he deserved to get a bike for Christmas.

Little Billy, of course, thought he did. Billy's mother, being a Christian woman, wanted him to reflect on his behavior over the last year and write a letter to God and tell him why he deserved a bike for Christmas.

Little Billy stomped up the steps to his room and sat down to write God a letter.

LETTER 1:

Dear God, I have been a very good boy this year and I would like a
bike for Christmas. I want a red one.
Your friend, Billy

Billy knew this wasn't true. He had not been a very good boy this year, so he tore up the letter and started over.

LETTER 2:

Dear God, This is your friend Billy. I have been a pretty good boy this year, and I would like a red bike for Christmas.
Thank you, Billy

Billy knew this wasn't true either. He tore up the letter and started again.

LETTER 3:

Dear God, I have been an OK boy this year and I would really like a
red bike for Christmas.
Billy

Billy knew he could not send this letter to God either, so he wrote another letter.

LETTER 4:

Dear God, I know I haven't been a good boy this year. I am very sorry. I will be a good boy if you just send me a red bike for Christmas.

Thank you, Billy

Billy knew, even if it was true, this letter was not going to get him a bike. By now, Billy was very upset.

He went downstairs and told his mother he wanted to go to church. Billy's mother thought her plan had worked because Billy looked very sad.

"Just be home in time for dinner," his mother said.

Billy walked down the street to the church and up to the altar.

He looked around to see if anyone was there.

He picked up a statue of the Virgin Mary.

He slipped it under his shirt and ran out of the church, down the street, into his house, and up to his room.
He shut the door to his room and sat down with a piece of paper and a pen. Billy began to write his letter to God.

LETTER 5:

I'VE GOT YOUR MAMA. IF YOU WANT TO SEE HER AGAIN,
SEND THE BIKE

Signed,

YOU KNOW WHO

At peace…

I joined SSY (Siddha Samadhi Yoga) at the bidding of my bestie, who had concluded this course in August. “You’ll be a changed person", she said, "by the time you complete this course”.
If the name Siddha Samadhi Yoga, didn’t conjure up images of men dressed up in saffron, sitting cross-legged in dark caves, in my unenlightened mind, it did manage to invoke nightmares of different organs of my body getting entangled with each other in an attempt to have a go at the oh-so intricate yogasanas. Eventually, I signed up for the course, needless to say, unwillingly. It entailed waking up at unearthly hours for a fortnight, save Mondays (much to the relief of my languid mind, and body)
To my astonishment, it was completely different from what I had imagined. There's so much that I have acquired in these ten days, (and I haven't completed the entire course yet) and had fun at the same time, it has only added to my gusto and zest for life and yet I am at peace...

A horrible story and a wonderful life...

A horrible story. Read on...
"It's a Wonderful Life" is a super film whose impeccable timing (post World War II-1946) and outstanding story-line gave hope and joy to the whole country. Oscar-nominee James Stewart stars as a banker who has a nervous breakdown and comes to the realization that he wishes he was never born. Enter guardian angel Clarence (Henry Travers) who shows Stewart how great his life has been and how his life has affected everyone else's for the better. Frank Capra's direction is, well Capra-esque. The screenplay is perfect and all the performances are super as well. Donna Reed, Thomas Mitchell, and Lionel Barrymore all add great moments as supporting players. Easily one of the best ever, a treasure. This is "It's a Wonderful Life" re-enacted by bunnies

Don't take your loved ones for granted

Generally e-mail forwards annoy the bejeebees out of me. But this interesting forward has been doing the rounds for a very long time now, I just thought you would like to see it. Chances are you've probably been sent this one already. It's lovely.Read on...

Attitude

This is the most inspirational forward I have ever received. I have treasured it ever since, and would love to share the same with you.
Attitude
I woke up early today, excited about all that I'll do before the clock
strikes midnight.
I have important responsibilities to fulfill today.
My job is to choose what kind of day I am going to have.

Today I can complain because the weather is rainy,
but I can be thankful that the grass is getting watered for free.

Today I can feel that I don't have more money,
Or I can be glad that my finances encourage me to plan and guide me
away from waste.

Today I can grumble about my health,
Or I can rejoice that I can be alive.

Today I can lament over all that my parents did not give me when I was
growing up,
Or I can be grateful that allowed me to be born.

Today I can cry, because roses have thorns,
Or I can celebrate that thorns have roses.

Today I can mourn my lack of friends,
Or I can excitedly embark upon a quest to discover new relationships.

Today I can whine because I have to go to school,
Or eagerly open my mind and fill it with new tidbits of knowledge.

Today I can murmur dejectedly because I have do housework,
Or I can be honoured, because God has provided shelter for my mind,
body and soul.

Today stretches ahead of me, waiting to be shaped,
And here I am the sculptor who gets to do the shaping.
What today will be like is up to me.
I get to chose what kind of day I will have.

Have a great day…unless you have other plans.

Something Fishy!!!

Something Fishy!!! Posted by Hello

A friend of mine, Gautam, was recently given the responsibility of taking up his brother's studies. After a few weeks of hard work and patience, he decided to put his brother to test. Apparently, his brother had not reciprocated with equal enthusiasm. Here’s what he got!! As evident, the results are side splitting.

Out of Commission!!!

I broke my leg badly last morning ( I'll spare you the gory details, as I'm not going to use this blog as a platform for telling you about my bad hair days or reminisce about the times I got out on the wrong side of my bed.)
As I lay on my bed, the pain excruciating enough to make me desert my logical self, I had visions of myself walking with the aid of crutches all my life, being dependent on family et al for all things trivial, till the doctor came along with her needle." It's just a bad sprain" she pronounced and prescribed some "Complete rest" along with a plethora of yecch pills and put my doubts to rest. The momentary lapse of reason though, was enough to make me realize how we take our blessings for granted . We constantly crib about so many don't-haves that we forget to enjoy what we actually do have. An online search revealed that scientists have estimated that broken down into many parts, a human body is estimated to value over 45 million dollars!! Surprised? Read on..
Do take a look at this BBC site that unravels the mystery of the human body.
And there's actually a website that tells you how much your body is worth!

This site helps you look at your body parts in details. Learn more...

Well, what do I say now? Count your blessings, and do take care...

Google Suggest!!!!

Google has now come up with Google Suggest. As you type into the search box, Google Suggest guesses what you're typing and offers suggestions in real time. This is similar to Google's "Did you mean?" feature that offers alternative spellings for your query after you search, except that it works in real time.
It works real fast...

The Sound Files

I was running a search on weird sites, and guess what i found! You really don't wanna know what people are upto these days. ( But I'm gonna tell you anyway, hahaha!!!) I mean what kind of people break wind (to put it very genteelly) and upload sound files on the net? Bizarrrrrrrrrrre!!!!
I would rather listen to BBC Radio 7 or BBC School Radio . Which is your favourite Radio Programme?

If you find yourself in a fight, you'd better hope it's not against a left-hander - scientists have found they often have the upper hand.

Assert your right to be left-handed. Celebrate the left-hander's day on...13th August.
Find out about how to make life in a right-handed world a little easier. Hang on guys help is on hand..I mean left-hand...

These quizzes are so addictive!!!

selkie
The Scottish selkie was a being who appeared to be
a seal, but had the ability to shed their skin
and roam the land in human form. If a human
were to happen upon the discarded seal skin, he
or she could hide it and force the selkie to
marry him or her. However, if the selkie were
to ever find the skin, he or she would
immediately reassume seal form and return to
the sea from whence they came, leaving their
spouse and offspring on land to forever mourn
their loss.

As a selkie, you are a very withdrawn, secretive
and somewhat sad person, and those around you
find you alluring and mystifying. People who
come into your life find it difficult to find
the inner you. You are also curious, but you
enjoy the comforts of home most of all.

Who is your inner Shapeshifter?

Never chase a lie. Let it alone, and it will run itself to death.

I begin with this quote by Lyman Beecher .
It's been quite an eye-opening week..this!
A friendship gone sour thanks to a ...dunno what? Or was it something that existed only in my mind....i'll never know...
Here's to new beginnings... and peace!
