As teachers we always insist that our students speak in English while at school.
This incident took place a few years ago. During that time, a few political parties had called for a 'Bharat Bandh'. I was telling my students that our school would be functioning as usual the next day. A child immediately stood up and asked, "But teacher, tomorrow is..Bharat...(groping for a suitable word)... Tomorrow India is closed, no?"
Cute innocense!

ReplyDeleteI remember when we were fined for speaking in tamil . Everytime we speak, one rupee fine....and how I hated those ManEaters errr monitors of the class who did that job of identifying person talking in tamil.....And not at a time when we didnt have the concept of pocket money....
so sweet...so u scare them to such n extent...
ReplyDeleteNow i feel like bein a teacher!
ReplyDeleteReminds me of my sister when she was a kid who said after looking at pictures - K for "Patang" and S for "Chamcha". I still tease her about the incident.
ReplyDeletethat was very cute. Kids are so innocent.
ReplyDeleteI had a similar incident in my life... When I was in 2nd std, the Janata Party had declared a bharat bhandh, but my school was working. Our HM was handling the class (as a sub, I think) and she mentioned that tomorrow it is school as usual. I do not know where I got the courage, but I got up and "informed" her that "tomorrow is a bharat bandh" and that the state has declared a holiday under the "essential services act". My father is a college prof and his college was closed and he explained to me that meaing.. The HM left the class that she hopes to see me next day. In the evening when my father came to pick us (my sibling & myself) up, our HM updated him about the incident ... You would not believe it.. but the next day the school was closed due to the skeleton bus service
ReplyDeletekids are amasing.. :D we all know about the kid who found the formula for the sum of first n natural numbers in no time when it was given as a punishment by his teacher!!!!
